John Spellar MP welcomes move to scrap boundary review

John Spellar MP welcomes move to scrap boundary review

Nick Clegg has held a press conference in which he has made it clear that the Liberal Democrats will no longer support the Government’s proposals to change the current parliamentary boundaries.

The announcement made it clear that this is a direct response to rebellious Conservative backbenchers who have succeeded in killing Lords reform. Nick Clegg expressed anger and disappointment at what he perceives to be a breaking of the Coalition Agreement by the Conservatives and has responded immediately by announcing that the Liberal Democrats will now no longer support the planned boundary changes.

Welcoming the announcement John Spellar, MP for Warley, said:

“The scrapping of these unwanted boundary changes is a welcome move, it is just a shame that it has taken this long to happen.

“These proposed changes have disrupted local communities, who didn’t want the changes in the first place. This Tory-led Government have wasted huge amounts of time and public resources on these reforms.

“I now look forward to continuing to serve the people of the Warley constituency.”
