No Means Test for Bus Passes

John Spellar MP Opposes Means Testing Pensioners Benefits

“No means test for bus passes” - that was the clear message from Warley MP John Spellar.  This follows press reports that Work and Pensions Secretary, Ian Duncan-Smith, David Cameron and Nick Clegg are all pressing to abolish or impose a means test on a range of benefits for pensioners.

John Spellar MP said:-

“I warned before the election and have reinforced the message recently.  The Tory-led Coalition Government are hell bent on means testing the bus pass.  This is a vital lifeline for millions of pensioners.  It enables them to get out and about and lead active lives.  If this disreputable shower tries to attack it they will have a fight on their hands.”
